Celo Community Votes for OP Stack Migration to Ethereum Layer-2

Community Endorsement

Celo's community has cast a resounding vote of confidence, opting to transition its blockchain infrastructure to Ethereum's layer-2 using Optimism's OP Stack tech. The decision, reached through a vote initiated on May 3, garnered support from addresses representing over 14 million CELO tokens, with minimal abstention.

A Transparent Selection

In an open and well-publicized selection process reminiscent of a 'blockchain Bachelorette,' cLabs, a key developer for Celo, carefully weighed various layer-2 options. After an extensive evaluation period, they've come full circle, reaffirming their initial choice of OP Stack, citing its robustness and compatibility with Celo's unique features.

Integrating the Ecosystem

The move to the OP Stack marks a significant shift from a standalone layer-1 to a more integrated layer-2 chain within the expansive Ethereum ecosystem. This choice aligns with Celo's strategic plans announced last July, indicating a desire for closer collaboration and technological synergy with the larger blockchain community.
